Scholarships at Mount St. Mary Academy
The family of Agnes Marie Birdsong honored her wish of establishing a need-based scholarship with funds from her estate. Mrs. Birdsong always believed that her daughters Jane Birdsong Stacy '74, Carol Birdsong Zanoff '76, and Bridget Birdsong Oldham '85 benefited greatly from the Catholic education they received at Mount St. Mary Academy.
Bornhoft Tuition Assistance Fund: (not given in 2012)
Established through a planned gift from Susanna Bornhoft and Valora Bornhoft Smith, this fund annually provides tuition assistance for qualified students.
John L. and Jane K. Corley Endowment: (not given in 2012)
Established to honor Sr. Frances, a Mount St. Mary Academy alumna, teacher and principal. Interest from this fund is used for need-based scholarships.
Established in 2004 by a member of the class of 1984, this fund provides financial assistance for a student demonstrating financial need whose parents or guardian have immigrated to the United States within the last 15 years.
Karen Doolos '03 Memorial Scholarship: (not given in 2012)
This scholarship was established by Karen's classmates as a senior gift in 2003, to honor her memory.
The Mercy & Me Scholarship
Through Mount St. Mary Academy’s Mercy & Me luncheon, the Mercy & Me Scholarship was established to foster the leadership abilities of MSM students. By funding the scholarship, a group of businesses and individuals known as members of LEADmsm have demonstrated a proven commitment to helping shape young women into leaders of tomorrow.
The scholarship helps with the cost of co-curricular programs and workshops that further enhance students’ opportunities for leadership development. Eligible students demonstrate leadership through their attitude and actions and have the desire to further these abilities through one of the eligible MSM programs.
Juanita Baer Enderlin '41 Scholarship:
Established in 2005 by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ponzini and the estate of Helen Zylco, this scholarship is awarded annually and is based on need.
This scholarship is awarded to a student entering her senior year who has demonstrated exemplary development of mind, body and spirit in the best tradition of the Mercy values.
Monsignor Lawrence Frederick, Mount chaplain and teacher since 1992, established this scholarship to honor his mother, Catherine West Frederick '33. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving junior or senior student who has not benefited from other scholarships, to assist with tuition, books or school fees.
The Lisa Guerra Rapp '94/HOBY Leadership Scholarship
Each year Mount St. Mary selects one or two sophomores to represent the school at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. Selection is based on demonstrated commitment to volunteerism and great leadership potential. The Lisa Guerra Rapp’94 (in whose honor the scholarship was established) HOBY Scholarship recognizes and honors the person selected to attend this seminar.
Carl and Betty J. Hampel Scholarship (not given in 2012)
Harding Family Endowed Scholarship:
Mount St. Mary theology teacher Candy Harding, along with her husband Tom and daughters Betsy Harding Tuggle '97, Katherine '99, and May '04, established the Harding Family Endowed Scholarship to benefit a hard working student. The scholarship is awarded to a rising junior, to help offset costs for tuition or books during her senior year.
Lake and Ann Harvell Scholarship
The Clelia Hawn Hispanic Scholarship
The Clelia Hawn Hispanic Scholarship was established by the family of John and Patti Bailey Family in memory of Clelia Pinzon Hawn, a longtime family friend and godmother of Rachael Bailey Oberste '03. Clelia came to the United States alone from Panama as a teenager, and one of her proudest moments was becoming a citizen of the United States. The scholarship allows her legacy and birth heritage to live on through its award each year to a driven young woman demonstrating the characteristics of honesty, integrity, leadership potential, and aptitude to succeed while exemplifying the Mercy Values in all areas of life.
Established by James E. Gueydan to honor his daughter, Sandy, this scholarship is awarded annually and is based on merit.
This scholarship endowment was established by members of the Keith family in appreciation for the Mount education they received. It provides a full scholarship to a deserving student in need, who exemplifies the Mercy Values. The scholarship is awarded on Mercy Day every September.
Norma Bacon Kennedy '27 Scholarship: (not given in 2012)
Established through a bequest, this scholarship provides full tuition assistance for a qualified student each year.
The McAuley Achievement Awards:
Established by Mount alumnae, friends and Board of Trustee members, the scholarships awarded from this fund recognizes students who have proven their commitment to Mount St. Mary Academy and are living examples of the Mercy Values.
The Annalissa "Magdalena" McClendon Travel Grant
This scholarship was established to provide tuition assistance to families who have clearly made the commitment to Catholic Education for their family members. The endowment may fund one student, or be divided among several students.
The Msgr John O’Donnell Scholarship was established through funds raised from the Fall ’08 fundraiser, Hello O’Donnell! Msgr. O’Donnell knows the value of Catholic Education and his desire is to support families demonstrating a commitment to Catholic education for their daughters. This scholarship recognizes a student at MSM who respects and lives the Mercy Values.
This fund provides annual funding toward need-based tuition assistance.
Schulte Family Endowed Scholarship:
The Schulte Family Endowed Scholarship Fund was established anonymously to honor the Schulte Family. It helps fund tuition, fees, uniforms, books and sports related needs for a minority student or students who demonstrates the Mercy values.
Established by the Class of 1995, this scholarship awards a student entering her senior year who exemplifies the qualities of character, spirit, individuality and service.
Evalyn Josephine Coulter Thomas '30 Scholarship:
Established in 2001, this scholarship benefits a qualified student who demonstrates interest in the arts or music.
Alana Wolfe Memorial Scholarship:
This scholarship was established by Keith and Diane Wolfe (a former MSM teacher) to honor the memory of their daughter, Alana. It is given to a rising senior who demonstrates courage and strength in the face of adversity.
Established by the Class of 1982 in memory of classmate Judith Wrappe, this scholarship covers the cost of art supplies for a student in each grade level who is interested in pursuing an art career.
